Radstone Fields and Northampton Road, Brackley, Northamptonshire
Two housing developments in Brackley, Northamptonshire, gave Albion Archaeology the chance to investigate two extensive middle Iron Age settlements. This publication gives a comparative overview of the excavations, looking at the nature of the settlements and their inhabitants, and examining their place within the wider landscape of the region.
The settlements contained numerous roundhouses as well as a wealth of storage pits and post-built granaries. More enigmatic features included several stone-lined pits and a stone-lined ditch. The evidence tells the story of two relatively large, rural settlements that were geared towards arable production - part of a series of similar inter-related settlements along a tributary of the River Great Ouse.
